Fat
(Fabric)
Blot or scrape off any excess. Dampen and put neat liquid detergent directly onto stain. Wash immediately in the hottest temperature the fabric will allow.
Alternatively, place stain between sheets of absorbent kitchen paper and press with a warm iron then wash as above. For bad stains or on fabrics which cannot withstand a very hot wash, a grease solvent can be used before laundering.
(Carpets)
For small oil stains, use a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth or paper towel to blot at the stain. Things to remember are - don't rub, and always work from the outer edge of the stain inwards.
For larger oil stains, use a dry-cleaning solvent and moisten a clean cloth or paper towel, blotting at the stain from the outside in. If the stain persists, then you should consult with a professional carpet cleaner.
